Your Gifts Support Nurse Scholarships
Seton’s four foundations recently recognized 20 outstanding Seton associates with a Seton Nurse Scholarship. Recipients were selected from a competitive group of 125 applicants and received $2,500 to further their nursing education.
Thanks to community support, 105 scholarships worth $185,000 have been awarded to outstanding Seton nurses over the last five years.
Recipients were selected by a committee of doctors, nurses, past recipients, and donors. “Serving on the selection committee this year was a humbling experience and an amazing honor,” says Anna Jurek, 2006 scholarship recipient. “I was able to meet some of the donors and hear their stories of why they give. Their stories are inspiring - especially those who give in memory of a loved one. It makes me appreciate my trek so much more. There can be no better tribute than to do something to honor a great person who went on before us.”
The Seton Nurse Scholarship Endowment was established in 2005 to provide support for Seton associates and help Seton recruit and retain nurses. To date, the community has contributed more than $4.3 million to the endowment including more than $400,000 from employees through the annual Seton Cares campaign.
“When my late husband, George, had an extended stay at Seton, he received such wonderful care. I’ve never forgotten that,” says Kit Montz, longtime Seton volunteer. During her years as a volunteer on the floors of Seton, Kit has seen how hard the nurses work. “I know there is a nursing shortage and I want my gift to help Seton attract and retain excellent nurses.”
This year’s 20 scholarship recipients were an impressive group representing each of Seton’s 10 hospitals.
