My Story
“My (breast cancer) experience was frightening, and physically and emotionally challenging…though my harrowing journey came to a happy ending. My dream will become a reality when the Seton Medical Center Austin Breast Cancer Center opens its doors.”
- Susan Lubin, Co-Chair, Seton Breast Cancer Center Steering Committee and 3 year survivor.
“Being supported from the initial appointment through the entire process by elite professionals and compassionate and specially trained survivors, will undoubtedly reduce the stress Austin area cancer patients and their families now endure from the fragmented approach to treatment most experience.”
- Candy Rogers, 14 year breast cancer survivor.
“Central Texas breast cancer patients and their families deserve a medical facility where cutting edge medical, multi-disciplinary care envelops them.”
- Marcia Levy, Co-Chair, Seton Breast Cancer Center Steering Committee, friend to many family and friends who have battled cancer.
“…and so, we started navigating our painful and unfamiliar journey down what seemed to be an ever convoluted path. Every corner we turned seemed to reveal another critical element or decision to be made. We were overwhelmed…A local comprehensive center such as the one that Seton is committed to building here would have been such a welcomed respite. I wanted to have as much of my treatment in Austin as possible, as it was extremely important for me to be able to spend as much time as possible with my precious young children.”
– Sarah Mansour, diagnosed at 39, endured 6 months of aggressive chemo, 6 additional months of post chemo infusions, a bi-lateral mastectomy, 40 rounds of radiation, and 5 years of hormone treatment. Sarah celebrated 6 years of survivorship this summer.
“That afternoon I cried, but went to my teacher and she comforted me. She gave me a book that she read to me. It had all these stories of Moms that had breast cancer, but they were animals. It was almost the same as me…P.S. Mom’s better!!!”
– Mary Bentley Barfield, age 6 at the time her mom, Jan, was diagnosed. Breast Cancer impacts more than just the patient.
